Lithium Universe Advances Critical Metals Recovery from E-Waste
Source: Kapitales Research
Lithium Universe Limited (ASX: LU7) has reported encouraging laboratory results from University of Edinburgh test work, demonstrating that its licensed tertiary diamide technology can selectively recover gallium and platinum from electronic waste. Gallium recovery exceeded 99%, while platinum recovery reached near-complete to complete levels under selected laboratory conditions. The results broaden the technology’s potential beyond its original focus on gold and copper recovery.
The company is investigating a staged recovery process in which different chemical conditions could target multiple high-value metals from the same e-waste feed. Gallium is important for semiconductors and advanced electronics, while platinum has applications across catalysts, electronics and hydrogen technologies. However, Lithium Universe noted that the work remains at the laboratory stage, with further testing, process development, scale-up and commercial evaluation required before establishing commercial viability.
