Australian Oil Company Expands Queensland Footprint With Acquisition of Strategic Surat Basin Assets.
Australian Oil Company Limited (ASX: AOK) has signed binding agreements to acquire three petroleum leases and a pipeline licence in the Surat Basin, strengthening its position near major infrastructure and active operators such as Santos, Shell, Elixir and Omega. The assets include the producing Emu Apple Oil Field, the Riverslea Oil Field, the Major Gas Field and the PPL 22 pipeline to the Silver Springs Gas Plant. The transaction structure includes a future 2% wellhead royalty to ADZ, a nominal AU$1 consideration to OGT for its minority interests and full indemnity of legacy liabilities by AOK’s subsidiary. Financial assurance obligations will be transitioned under an agreed framework.
The acquisition provides AOK with immediate production potential, low-cost redevelopment opportunities and multiple undrilled prospects positioned near existing facilities. Production at Emu Apple could scale from 15bopd to 50bopd, while Riverslea and Major may be reactivated. With surrounding acreage largely vacant and regional gas demand rising, the assets offer strong strategic and commercial upside for AOK’s growth strategy heading into 2026.
