ASX 200 moves up marginally; Energy sector was top gainer

By the end of the trading session on 04 November 2022, benchmark index ASX 200 settled at 6,892.50, up 0.50% from the previous close. Out of 11 sectors, 6 sectors are trading in the green zone. The energy sector was the top gainer with 3.37% growth in the index value and settled at 11822.9. On the other hand, healthcare and telecommunication services sectors are the top losers with 0.78% and 0.44% drop in the index values.

  • Oil prices turned higher on Friday as the dollar eased. However, the gains were capped by recession fears and fresh concerns that COVID outbreaks will dent fuel demand in China.
  • Brent oil futures is up 2.15% to US$96.66.
  • Most Asian currencies were up slightly. However, investor sentiment was under pressure following the Fed comment on the possible interest rate hike in the coming period.
  • Australian currency jumped 0.8% by the end of market close on Friday, 04 November 2022. It recovered from its two-week low.
  • The All Ordinary closed up Friday, gaining 0.55% to 7,089.30. It crossed above its 125-day moving average.
  • The Hang Seng is up 6.62%, and the FTSE 100 is up 0.62% today.
