ASX 200 Ended Higher; Lifted By A-REIT and Healthcare Sectors

By the end of the trading session on 23 June 2022, the benchmark index S&P/ASX 200 ended higher by 0.31% and settled at 6,528.40. Out of 11 sectors, 9 sectors closed higher along with the gain in the ASX 200.

The A-REIT and Healthcare sectors were the top 2 gaining sectors, gained 2.71% and 1.97% in their index values. On the other hand, the Energy and Materials sectors were the top 2 losing sectors, declined 2.06% and 1.50% in their index values.

Blackmores Limited (ASX: BKL) and Goodman Group (ASX: GMG) were the top gainers with 5.405% and 4.869% growth in share prices, respectively. On the other hand, St Barbara Limited (ASX: SBM) and PointsBet Holdings Limited (ASX: PBH) were the top losers, with a 13.514% and 10.949% drop in share prices, respectively.

  • Ramelius Resources' share price dropped after the company announced that gold production for the 2022 financial year would fall marginally short of its current guidance range of 260,000 to 265,000 ounces.
  • The materials sector declined, with Rio Tinto down 1.78 % to $102.63, BHP declined 1.29% to $40.50, and Fortescue also down 2.09% to $17.25.
  • Falling iron ore prices weighed on the mining sector, with Chinese futures declining on Wednesday to their lowest level in 16 weeks due to worries about an oversupply of steel in China.
  • Oil prices retreated as concern over a global economic slowdown intensified, with Federal Reserve chairman Jerome Powell warning that a US recession is possible.
  • Dow has closed down by 0.2%, S&P 500 down by 0.1%, and NASDAQ closed lower by 0.2%.
  • Hang Seng is up by 1.65%, and FTSE 100 is down by 0.48%.
