Will Titanium Producer Push Its ASX Rally Further After GenX Milestone?
Source: Kapitales Research
Highlights:
GenX delivered six-times higher throughput, raising questions over its industrial-scale production potential.
Power use fell more than 75%, strengthening the case for lower titanium production costs.
Q4 engineering work could reveal how effectively GenX translates from validation to commercial scale.
Strong Opening Momentum
IperionX Limited (ASX: IPX) drew investor attention after announcing on 16 September 2026 that its GenX continuous titanium production platform had successfully completed its initial commercial-scale validation campaigns. The development highlighted potential improvements in production efficiency, throughput and resource consumption. IperionX was also among the Stop five gainers at the opening bell. The stock traded at a current market price (CMP) of AU$2.645, gaining approximately 3.320%.
GenX Clears Key Validation Stage
IperionX completed four continuous production campaigns at its Virginia research facility, processing more than 500 kilograms of titanium powder over a combined 41 hours. Average production reached approximately 12 kilograms per hour.
Testing also demonstrated encouraging product quality. All valid samples achieved their applicable oxygen benchmark, with spherical titanium powder satisfying the more demanding ASTM Grade 23 oxygen requirement.
The validation represents an important step because GenX moves IperionX’s HAMR titanium technology from conventional batch processing toward a continuous production model.
Efficiency Gains Drive Attention
Operational results showed GenX produced six times the throughput of the batch HAMR system over comparable operating periods. Magnesium consumption was more than 45% lower per kilogram, hydrogen requirements fell by over 60%, while electricity use declined by more than 75%.
These improvements could ultimately support better equipment utilisation, reduced processing time and lower capital intensity as production capacity expands.
What Comes Next?
During Q4 2026, IperionX plans to further optimise the GenX furnace, integrate it into a complete titanium powder production line and progress engineering and economic studies for its first industrial-scale facility.
The market’s early response suggests investors are focusing on GenX’s potential to improve titanium production economics. The next key challenge is proving that GenX can maintain these performance gains as production expands to an industrial scale.
