ASX/200 Closed higher by 0.12%, Lifted by Financial
By the end of the trading session on 06 March 2024, the benchmark index S&P/ASX 200 ended higher by 0.12% and settled at 7,733.50. Out of 11 sectors, 06 closed higher along with the ASX 200.
Financial and Utilities sectors were the top-gaining sectors, gaining 0.80% and 0.54% respectively in their index values. On the other hand, Information Technology and Consumer Staples was the top-losing sector, losing 1.44% and 0.59% respectively in their index values.
Megellan Financial Group Limited (ASX: MFG) and Strike Energy Limited (ASX: STX) were the top gainers, with 7.845% and 4.878% growth in share prices, respectively. On the other hand, Arcadium Lithium Limited (ASX: LTM) and Iress Limited (ASX: IRE) were the top losers, with 9.709% and 6.000% drop in share prices, respectively.
ANZ shares rose by 1% to $29.02 after agreeing to sell 16.5% of its stake in AMMB Holdings (AmBank) via a block trade at a price of 3.85 Malaysian ringgit ($1.25) each.
Magellan Financial Group saw a 7.9% rally, reaching $9.21, following an increase in total funds management to $37.2 billion in February, up from $36.3 billion in January.
Cettire, an online luxury retailer, experienced a more than 20% decline at the beginning of trading due to revelations from The Australian Financial Review. The investigation revealed that duties charged by the company on goods were not remitted to the federal government.
Saudi Arabia raised prices of its main oil grade to buyers in Asia for the upcoming month, following the decision of the OPEC+ group to extend output cuts into the middle of the year.
The Dow closed down by 1.04%, the S&P 500 down by 1.02%, and the NASDAQ finished lower by 1.65%.
Conversely, the Hang Seng index is up by 1.66%, and the FTSE 100 is up by 0.08% today.
