Catalyst Metals Cuts FY27 Gold Production Guidance and Pushes Trident and Old Highway Output to FY28

Catalyst Metals Cuts FY27 Gold Production Guidance and Pushes Trident and Old Highway Output to FY28 Source: Kapitales Research

Highlights

  • Gold production fell to 22,231oz in the September quarter, from 31,886oz in the June quarter.
  • FY27 production guidance is now 90,000 to 105,000 ounces, below the 130,000 to 150,000 ounces indicated in September 2025.
  • First gold from Trident and Old Highway has moved from FY27 into FY28, while the ±200koz a year long-term target is unchanged.

Introduction

Catalyst Metals Limited (ASX: CYL) released its September 2026 quarterly report on Friday, showing lower gold output from its Western Australian Plutonic Gold Belt. The company also set FY27 production guidance well below its earlier indication.

Two of the new mines it is developing, Trident and Old Highway, are no longer expected to produce gold this financial year. The company said its balance sheet allows it to put mine development ahead of near-term production.

Lower Output in the Quarter

Gold output at Plutonic was 22,231oz for the three months, down from 31,886oz in the prior quarter. Gold sold totalled 27,229oz, at an average realised price of A$6,116/oz. The company said low staffing levels were the main drag on production. It linked the staffing shortfall to a significant shift in flight schedules and tighter competition for workers in the state.

An extended processing plant shutdown, aimed at lifting long-term throughput, also affected the quarter. Catalyst said it has set up an internal recruitment function and secured new fly-in fly-out flight times, and that vacancies are being filled.

FY27 Guidance Reset

FY27 production guidance is 90koz to 105koz, at an all-in sustaining cost of A$3,600/oz to A$4,100/oz. Guidance issued in September 2025 had pointed to FY27 production of 130koz to 150koz, which counted on ounces from both Trident and Old Highway.

The company said the higher cost guidance reflects reduced output from its current mines, industry inflation and its approach to cost discipline. It added that quarterly production during FY27 is not expected to be linear.

FY27 spending guidance includes A$70m to A$80m in growth capital, A$30m to A$40m in non-discretionary capital and A$80m to A$90m in exploration.

Why Trident and Old Highway Slipped

At Trident, Catalyst said grade control drilling lifted grade and contained ounces across the deposit as a whole but narrowed the fringe areas that had been scheduled to be mined first. The underground portal started a month late, and development is about 100m behind the planned schedule.

At Old Highway, the company attributed the deferral to permitting delays and said it expects mining to begin in calendar 2027. Cinnamon is also not expected to produce this financial year.

Catalyst said its long-term target of about 200koz a year and its 2Moz Reserve base are unchanged. It also said it is not yet clear whether the re-organisation of its growth schedule is material.

Balance Sheet and Share Price

Cash and bullion stood at A$371m at 30 September, up A$40m over the quarter, after A$80m in operating cash flow. The revolving credit facility was doubled to A$200m and remains undrawn, taking available liquidity to A$571m.

Catalyst shares were at AU$3.89 in morning trade, down 25.3%, with about 2.31 million shares traded.

What Investors Should Watch

  • Whether staffing and ore output at Plutonic Main recover in the December quarter.
  • Progress on Old Highway permitting and the Trident underground development schedule.
  • Whether Catalyst says if the re-organisation of its growth plan is material once its scheduling work is finished.

Conclusion

Catalyst has reset FY27 around its three operating mines and moved first production from two new mines into FY28. It has kept its longer-term production target and holds A$371m in cash and bullion with no debt.

The coming quarters will show whether output from existing mines improves and whether the new projects meet their revised timelines.
