Oil Prices Surge Above US$116 as Saudi Attacks Intensify: Could Crude Climb Further?

Oil Prices Surge Above US$116 as Saudi Attacks Intensify: Could Crude Climb Further? Source: Kapitales Research

Highlights:

  • Brent crude surpasses US$116 as renewed Houthi attacks threaten Saudi Arabia’s energy infrastructure.
  • WTI exceeds US$103, with both benchmarks approaching a fourth consecutive monthly gain.
  • Escalating US-Iran friction and disruptions to shipping through the Strait of Hormuz heighten the risk of additional global oil supply shortages.

Oil Prices Climb Amid Escalating Middle East Tensions

Global crude oil prices advanced on 30 October 2026 as escalating geopolitical tensions intensified concerns about energy supplies from the Middle East. Renewed attacks targeting Saudi Arabian oil infrastructure, alongside uncertainty surrounding potential US military action against Iran, strengthened bullish sentiment across energy markets.

According to the latest supplied market snapshot:

  • WTI crude: Increased 1.27%, or US$1.30, to US$103.30 per barrel.
  • Brent crude: Advanced 1.29%, or US$1.48, to US$116.40 per barrel.

Both benchmarks were heading towards their fourth consecutive monthly increase, reflecting sustained concerns about regional supply security.

Saudi Oil Infrastructure Faces Renewed Threats

Yemen's Iran-aligned Houthi movement claimed attacks against several important Saudi Arabian energy installations, including the Ras Tanura and Rabigh refineries and an Aramco facility in Abqaiq.

Meanwhile, a Saudi-led coalition reported intercepting a cruise missile directed towards the kingdom's western region. These developments increased uncertainty surrounding Saudi Arabia's ability to maintain uninterrupted petroleum operations, potentially placing additional pressure on global crude availability.

US-Iran Relations Add Another Layer of Uncertainty

Concerns about possible renewed American military operations against Iran further complicated the energy market outlook. Although diplomatic engagement continued, substantial differences between Washington and Tehran remained unresolved.

Separately, Iranian authorities reported that three tankers struck sea mines near the Strait of Hormuz, highlighting persistent maritime security risks. The reported incident reinforced concerns about potential interruptions to a critical international oil transportation corridor.

Outlook: Can Oil Prices Sustain Their Upward Momentum?

Crude oil prices could remain elevated if attacks on energy infrastructure continue or regional shipping conditions deteriorate. Prolonged supply uncertainty may increase transportation costs, reinforce inflationary pressures and complicate monetary policy decisions globally.

However, meaningful diplomatic progress could reduce geopolitical risk premiums and moderate prices.

Looking ahead, developments involving Saudi energy facilities, US-Iran negotiations and maritime security will remain central to determining whether crude extends its gains or experiences a correction.
