Viridis Mining Accelerates Rare Earth Development

Viridis Mining and Minerals Limited (ASX: VMM) highlighted significant progress at its Colossus Rare Earths Project in Brazil, following the filing of its FY2026 annual report on 28 September 2026 and quarterly activities update on 27 October 2026. The disclosures outlined improvements in project financing, technical development and construction readiness as the company advances towards commercial production.

Colossus Feasibility Study Reveals Strong Economics

The definitive feasibility study, completed on 20 August 2026, established a 25-year production plan with estimated initial development expenditure of US$449 million.

Key projected financial metrics include:

  • After-tax net present value: US$1.196 billion at an 8% discount rate.
  • After-tax internal rate of return: 36.4%.
  • Capital payback period: 2.7 years after initial production.
  • Estimated annual revenue: Approximately US$341 million.

These projections remain dependent on commodity pricing, operational performance and successful project execution.

Strategic Investments Strengthen Financial Position

Viridis announced strategic equity commitments of up to US$120 million, including a potential US$75 million investment from One Investment Management. Its September-quarter cash balance reached AU$119.7 million, while conditional outstanding investments could increase pro forma liquidity to approximately AU$200 million. Additionally, Brazil's development bank approved a R$77.5 million facility to support eligible research, innovation and processing activities.

Engineering Milestones Support Construction Readiness

Viridis selected Sedgman and Blossom as preferred engineering partners and awarded a major filtration equipment package to Dewater. Demonstration plant operations achieved average magnetic rare earth oxide recovery of 78.7%, surpassing the earlier 76% feasibility assumption.

Outlook: Key Approvals Could Shape Future Progress

Viridis targets initial production during the second half of 2028. However, finalising senior debt financing, securing environmental installation approval and completing binding offtake agreements remain essential milestones.Successful delivery could establish Colossus as an important supplier within diversified global rare earth markets, although funding, construction and commodity pricing risks remain significant.
