Other Factors influencing the market:

  • S&P/ASX200 closed lower by 1.14% as investors are braced for a U.S. inflation report that could force another super-sized hike in interest rates and the start of an earnings season where profits could be under pressure.
  • EML Payment Limited’s share price dropped sharply after the company announced the surprise resignation of chief executive Tom Cregan.
  • Shares in Wall Street closed mixed in the previous session after the June jobs data confirmed that the Federal Reserve has room to raise interest rates at its next policy meeting later this month.
  • The energy sector declined due to a decline in the oil prices as worries about a recession and China's COVID-19 curbs hitting demand outweighed ongoing concerns about tight supply.
  • Costa Group’s share price declined as the company has warned of quality issues in its citrus crop due to weather events, most notably in Navel oranges, which has impacted pack-out rates.
  • Dow has closed down by 0.1%, S&P 500 down by 0.1%, and NASDAQ closed higher by 0.1%.
