Market Alert : Global Markets Remain Sensitive to Middle East Headlines

ASX/200 Closed higher by 0.12%, Lifted by Information Technology

By the end of the trading session on 26 February 2024, the benchmark index S&P/ASX 200 ended higher by 0.12% and settled at 7,652.80. Out of 11 sectors, 06 closed higher along with the ASX 200.

Information Technology and Consumer Discretionary sectors were the top-gaining sectors, gaining 0.95% and 0.87% respectively in their index values. On the other hand, Energy and Utilities sector was the top-losing sector, losing 2.03% and 1.10% respectively in their index values.

Liontown Resources Limited (ASX: LTR) and Core Lithium Limited (ASX: CXO) were the top gainers, with 8.372% and 7.142% growth in share prices, respectively. On the other hand, Nanosonics Limited (ASX: NAN) and TPG Telecom Limited (ASX: TPG) were the top losers, with 15.975% and 8.023% drop in share prices, respectively.

  • Oil prices experienced their largest decline in three weeks after surpassing a crucial moving average, remaining within a narrow trading range.
  • The Dow Jones closed up by 0.16%, the S&P 500 increased by 0.03%, while the NASDAQ ended the day with a 0.28% decrease.
  • The Hang Seng index declined by -0.48%, while the FTSE 100 rose by 0.28% during the trading session.
