ASX/200 Closed Higher by 0.85%, Lifted by Financial

By the end of trading session on 29 September 2025, benchmark index S&P/ASX 200 closed 0.85% higher at 8,862.80. Out of 11 sectors, 09 sectors ended higher along with the S&P/ASX 200.

Financial and Healthcare were the top-gaining sectors, gaining 1.59% and 1.40% in their values. On the other hand, Information Technology  and  Energy were the top-losing sectors, losing 0.63% and 0.59% in their values

Droneshield Limited (ASX: DRO) and Austal Limited (ASX: ASB) are the top-gaining stocks, gaining 22.520% and 4.827% in their stock prices. On the other hand, Iluka Resources Limited (ASX: ILU) and Whitehaven Coal Limited (ASX: WHC) are the top-losing stocks, losing 4.167% and 3.383% in their stock prices.

Other Factors influencing the market:

  • The Brisbane Broncos surged nearly 15% to a record high of $1.32 after their preliminary final victory over the Penrith Panthers during the weekend.
  • In corporate developments, battery and technology firm Novonix jumped more than 15% after announcing its first mass production of synthetic graphite for a major US client and hinting at further expansions.
  • Meanwhile, New Zealand’s Synlait Milk climbed 10% after completing the sale of its North Island assets to healthcare giant Abbott for NZ$307 million (US$271 million).
  • Gold prices crossed US$3,800 an ounce for the first time on Monday, driven by investor expectations of additional interest rate cuts by the US Federal Reserve.
  • Brent crude oil was trading at US$69.39 in early trade, having risen above US$70 a barrel on Friday. Prices advanced more than 5% last week, marking their strongest weekly gain since June.
  • On Wall Street, the Dow Jones Industrial Average added 0.65%, the S&P 500 climbed 0.59%, and the Nasdaq Composite rose 0.44%.
  • In Asia, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index advanced 1.98%, while Britain’s FTSE 100 gained 0.77% during the session.
