Market Alert : Crude Oil Prices Decline on Easing Geopolitical Risk and Emerging Supply Expectations

ASX/200 Closed Higher By 1.14%; Lifted by A-REIT

By the end of the trading session on 03 November 2023, the benchmark index S&P/ASX 200 ended higher by 1.14% and settled at 6,978.20. Out of 11 sectors, 10 sectors closed higher along with the ASX 200.



A-REIT and Industrials sectors were the top-gaining sectors, gaining 2.09% and 2.07% respectively in their index values. Energy sector was the top-declining sector, losing 0.08% respectively in their index values.



Block Inc. Limited (ASX: SQ2) and Weebit Nano Limited (ASX: WBT) were the top gainers, with 25.181% and 12.068% growth in share prices, respectively. Treasury Wine Limited (ASX: TWE) and Gold Road Resource Limited (ASX: GOR) were the top losers, with 8.761% and 2.426% drop in share prices, respectively

Other Factors influencing the market:




  • Macquarie Group saw its shares rise by 1.8% to $163.24, despite reporting a 39% decrease in half-year net profit to $1.4 billion and announcing an interim dividend of $2.55 per share.

  • Lendlease experienced a 1.1% increase in its share price, reaching $6.38, even though it was revealed that the company and Google would be terminating their collaboration on developing the internet giant's four major districts in the San Francisco Bay Area.

  • Regal Partners advanced by 1.1% to $1.92 after acquiring PM Capital, a 25-year-old Sydney-based investment firm. This acquisition is expected to increase its assets under management to $10.8 billion.

  • Oil prices saw an increase due to a decline in the value of the US dollar, making the commodity more appealing to importers.

  • In the stock market, the Dow recorded a 1.70% increase, the S&P 500 saw a 1.89% rise, and the NASDAQ closed higher by 1.78%.

  • Internationally, the Hang Seng index experienced a 2.23% increase, while the FTSE 100 in the UK saw a 1.42% rise for the day.
