ASX/200 Closed Lower By 0.77%; Dragged down by Financial
By the end of the trading session on 04 October 2023, the benchmark index S&P/ASX 200 ended lower by 0.77% and settled at 6,890.20. Out of 11 sectors, 10 sectors closed lower along with the ASX 200.
Utilities sector were the top-gaining sector, gaining 0.34% respectively in their index values. Financial and Telecommunication Services were the top-declining sectors, gaining 1.54% and 1.10% respectively in their index values.
Ramelius Resources Limited (ASX: RMS) and Data#3 Limited (ASX: DTL) were the top gainers, with 4.270% and 3.244% growth in share prices, respectively. Core Lithium Limited (ASX: CXO) and Polynovo Limited (ASX: PNV) were the top losers, with 5.953% and 5.180% drop in share prices, respectively.
US bond yields reached levels not seen since 2007, leading to a 1.4% decline in the benchmark S&P 500, which hit a four-month low. The Dow Jones also dropped by 1.3%, wiping out gains for the year.
Mineral Resources saw a 1.3% decrease in its stock price to $63.33 following the finalization of a $US1.1 billion debt offering.
Qantas shares dipped below $5, falling 1.8% to $4.93 during the trading session.
Despite a 25% increase in oil prices since June, analysts anticipate the oil rally to persist for the remainder of the year, largely due to expectations that OPEC+ will maintain supply cuts.
The Dow closed with a 1.29% decline, the S&P 500 was down by 1.37%, and the NASDAQ concluded the day with a 1.87% decrease.
The Hang Seng experienced a 1.25% decline, while the FTSE 100 saw a 0.54% decrease in its performance today.
