ASX/200 Closed Lower by 0.07%, Dragged down by Information Technology

By the end of trading session on 06 October 2025, benchmark index S&P/ASX 200 closed 0.07% lower at 8,981.40. Out of 11 sectors, 07 sectors ended lower along with the S&P/ASX 200.

Materials and Utilities were the top-gaining sectors, gaining 0.71% and 0.59% in their values. On the other hand, Information Technology and Healthcare were the top-losing sectors, losing 1.37% and 1.03% in their values

Droneshield Limited (ASX: DRO) and Lynas Rare Earths Limited (ASX: LYC) are the top-gaining stocks, gaining 10.739% and 7.198% in their stock prices. On the other hand, Mesoblast Limited (ASX: MSB) and HMC Capital Limited (ASX: HMC) are the top-losing stocks, losing 6.160% and 5.358% in their stock prices.

  • Shares of Restaurant Brands climbed 0.7% after the company, which is dual-listed, confirmed it received a full takeover bid from its majority owner, Finaccess Restauracion, for $NZ5.05 ($4.46) per share.
  • Auckland Airport shares dropped 1% despite the Commerce Commission's decision to reject Air New Zealand's call for an inquiry into airport regulation.
  • Predictive Discovery (PDI), a gold miner, saw its stock jump 11.4% following the announcement of a merger agreement with Canada's Robex Resources, valued at $2.3 billion. Under the proposed terms, Robex shareholders are set to receive 8.667 PDI shares for each Robex security they own.
  • Bitcoin, the world's leading cryptocurrency by market capitalization, reached a new record high on Sunday and was trading up nearly 2.7% at $US125,245.57 as of 0512 GMT.
  • Oil prices advanced approximately 1% in early Monday trading. This rise followed the OPEC+ announcement of a smaller-than-anticipated monthly production increase, which helped ease concerns about oversupply.
  • On the global front, the Dow Jones Industrial Average finished up 0.51% and the S&P 500 saw a minor gain of 0.01%. In contrast, the Nasdaq Composite closed lower by 0.28%. 
  • Today, the Hang Seng index has fallen 0.65%, and the FTSE 100 is down 0.01%.
