ASX/200 Closed Lower by 0.30%, Dragged down by Consumer Discretionary

By the end of trading session on 02 September 2025, benchmark index S&P/ASX 200 closed 0.30% lower at 8,900.60. Out of 11 sectors, 09 sectors ended lower along with the S&P/ASX 200.

Financial and Information Technology are the top-gaining sector, gaining 0.42% and 0.35% in their it’s value. On the other hand, Consumer Discretionary and Consumer Staples was the top-losing sector, losing 1.89% and 1.66% in it’s value.

Polynovo Limited (ASX: PNV) and NRW Holdings Limited (ASX: NWH) are the top-gaining stocks, gaining 10.266% and 6.315% in their stock prices. On the other hand, Bapcor Limited (ASX: BAP) and Reece Limited (ASX: REH) are the top-losing stocks, losing 4.313% and 4.118% in their stock prices.

  • PolyNovo surged 10.3% to $1.45 after informing shareholders it stands to benefit from proposed US Medicare reimbursement changes for outpatient wound care.
  • Oil prices edged higher as traders awaited direction from the upcoming OPEC+ meeting and potential US measures targeting Russian supply.
  • On global markets, Wall Street closed mixed: the Dow Jones fell 0.20%, the S&P 500 lost 0.64%, and the Nasdaq declined 1.15%. 
  • Elsewhere, the Hang Seng dropped 0.37%, while the FTSE 100 rose 0.10%.
