ASX/200 Closed Lower by 0.30%, Draged down by Industrials

By the end of the trading session on 14 May 2024, the benchmark index S&P/ASX 200 ended lower by 0.30% and settled at 7,726.80. Out of 11 sectors, 09 sectors closed higher along with the ASX 200.

Consumer Discretionary and Healthcare sectors were the top-gaining sectors, gaining 0.73% and 0.21% respectively in their index values. On the other hand, Industrials and A-REIT sectors were the top-lossing sectors, lossing 0.88% and 0.88% respectively in their index values.  

G.U.D. Holdings Limited (ASX: GUD) and Alumina Limited (ASX: AWC) are the top-gaining stocks, gaining 12.180% and 6.875% in their stock prices. On the other hand, Fletcher Building Limited (ASX: FBU) and Homeco Daily Needs REIT (ASX: DEG) are the top-losing stocks and are declining by 4.182% and 3.516% in their stock prices.

  • Debate among major global investors continues regarding whether to re-enter Chinese equities, driven by a recent rally propelling it into a bull market.
  • The Dow recorded a decrease of 0.21%, the S&P 500 slightly declined by 0.02%, and the NASDAQ saw an increase of 0.29% in its closing figures.
  • The Hang Seng index showed a minor increase of 0.01%, while the FTSE 100 experienced a decline of -0.22% during the trading session.
