Kinetiko Energy Ltd (ASX: KKO) has launched drilling operations at well 271-KA03PT10 in Brakfontein, South Africa, marking a pivotal advancement from explorer to gas producer. The well lies within 500 metres of historic gas-producing test wells and is expected to form part of a cluster supporting a planned pilot micro-LNG plant, aligning with Kinetiko’s partnership with FFS Refiners (Pty) Ltd.
The drilling incorporates optimised protocols based on in-depth analysis of earlier drilling outcomes and laboratory testing conducted by Oilfield Technologies Australia. The conductor casing was successfully set and cemented to a depth of 15 metres in May. Full drilling to terminal depth is expected within three weeks, with initial gas flow results anticipated in August 2025. This development strengthens Kinetiko’s positioning as a strategic onshore gas developer in South Africa’s Mpumalanga Province, where investment interest in conventional methane and helium plays is growing. Commercial LNG production is targeted by late 2026.
