ASX 200 dropped 0.16%; A-REIT Sector was the Biggest Laggard
By the end of the trading session on 04 May 2022, the benchmark index S&P/ASX 200 slipped 0.16% and settled at 7304.70. 6 out of 11 sectors closed lower along with the ASX 200. The Energy and Financial sectors were the top gainers with 0.83% and 0.65% gaining in their index values. The A-REIT and Consumer Discretionary sectors were the top losers with 1.47% and 1.05% decline in their index values.
The energy sector is gaining as the Brent oil futures are up by 1.31%. Also, European Union is planning on new sanctions against Russia for the war that will affect Moscow’s oil industry.
Hub24 Limited (ASX: HUB) and Orora Limited (ASX: ORA) were the top gainers with 3.891% and 3.367% growth in share prices, respectively. On the other hand, ARB Corporation Limited (ASX: ARB) and Zip Co Limited (ASX: ZIP) were the top losers, with a 11.179% and 10.823% drop in the share price, respectively.
According to the Retail Trade figures released today by the Australian Bureau of Statistics, Australia's retail sales rose 1.6% in March 2022, making a new record high.
ARB Corporation fell by more than 11% after the company announced a disappointing market update.
Dow has closed up by 0.2%, S&P 500 up by 0.5%, and NASDAQ closed up by 0.2%.
Hang Seng is down by 1.08%, and FTSE 100 is up by 0.22%.
