ASX/200 Closed Higher by 0.95%, Lifted by Materials

By the end of the trading session on 24 June 2025, the benchmark index S&P/ASX 200 closed higher by 0.95% and settled at 8,555.50. Out of the 11 sectors, 08 sectors ended higher along with the S&P/ASX 200.

Materials and Financial is the top-gaining sector, gaining 1.98% and 1.89% in their it’s value. On the other hand, and Energy and Utilities are the top-losing sector, losing 3.89% and 1.99% in their index value.

HMC Capital Limited (ASX: HMC) and Pilbara Mineral Limited (ASX: PLS) are the top-gaining stocks, gaining 6.941% and 6.639% in their stock prices. On the other hand, Woodside Energy Group Limited (ASX: BGL) and Karoon Energy Limited (ASX: KAR) are the top-losing stocks, losing 6.538% and 6.460% in their stock prices.

  • Rio Tinto advanced by 3% to close at $104.94 after confirming a $2.4 billion (US$1.6 billion) iron ore venture in Western Australia in partnership with Hancock Prospecting.
  • Collins Foods surged 17.4% to $8.52, even though the company reported an 89% decline in its annual net profit. Investors appeared optimistic, suggesting confidence that the business had reached its lowest point.
  • Greatland Gold made a strong debut on the ASX, climbing 7.9% shortly after the market opened. The stock ended the session at $7.46, marking a 13% increase over its initial public offering price of $6.60 set on June 15, following two years of preparation.
  • Crude oil prices continued to fall, while U.S. stock futures rose after former President Donald Trump shared on social media that a ceasefire had been agreed upon between Israel and Iran.
  • Gold prices declined as demand for safe-haven assets weakened in response to the reported ceasefire announcement between the two nations.
  • In global market movements, the Dow Jones Industrial Average edged up 0.89%, the S&P 500 rose 0.96%, and the NASDAQ Composite gained 0.94%. 
  • Meanwhile, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index climbed 2.05%, whereas London’s FTSE 100 slipped by 0.19%.
