By the end of trading session on 28 August 2025, benchmark index S&P/ASX 200 closed 0.22% higher at 8,980.00. Out of 11 sectors, 06 sectors ended higher along with the S&P/ASX 200.

Financial and A-REIT are the top-gaining sector, gaining 1.10% and 0.99% in their it’s value. On the other hand, Energy and Information Technology was the top-losing sector, losing 2.39% and 1.72% in it’s value.

IDP Education Limited (ASX: IEL) and Lifestyle Communities Limited (ASX: LIC) are the top-gaining stocks, gaining 29.735% and 14.922% in their stock prices. On the other hand, Telix Pharmaceuticals Limited (ASX: TLX) and Nine Entertainment Co. Holdings Limited (ASX: NEC) are the top-losing stocks, losing 18.750% and 12.229% in their stock prices.

  • Eagers Automotive (ASX: APE) surged 12% to $25.26 after reporting a 2.3% lift in half-year net profit to $119 million, supported by strong growth in the electric and hybrid vehicle segments.
  • South32 (ASX: S32) dropped 7.2% to $2.70 as higher-than-anticipated costs at its Worsley alumina operations dampened earnings expectations.
  • Macquarie Technology (ASX: MAQ) slid 8.2% to $60.50 after issuing softer EBITDA guidance, citing ongoing investments in talent, capability building, and rising costs.
  • Wesfarmers (ASX: WES) inched up 0.4% to $92.06, posting a 14.4% increase in net profit to $2.93 billion and declaring a special dividend to shareholders.
  • Meanwhile, oil prices retreated as summer demand tapered and trade tensions escalated. Brent crude fell to around US$64 per barrel at the time of writing, its lowest since May, amid optimism for a ceasefire.
  • On global equity markets, Wall Street ended mixed—the Dow Jones gained 0.32%, the S&P 500 rose 0.24%, and the NASDAQ Composite advanced 0.21%. 
  • In Asia, the Hang Seng was down 0.74% today.
