ASX/200 Closed Lower By 0.13%; Dragged down by Energy

By the end of the trading session on 17 November 2023, the benchmark index S&P/ASX 200 ended lower by 0.13% and settled at 7,049.40. Out of 11 sectors, 07 sectors closed lower along with the ASX 200.



Healthcare and Industrials sectors were the top-gaining sectors, gaining 0.53% and 0.47% respectively in their index values. Energy and Utilities sector were the top-declining sectors, losing 1.57% and 1.04% respectively in their index values.



The A2 Milk Company (ASX: A2M) and Graincorp Limited (ASX: GNC) were the top gainers, with 4.973% and 4.238% growth in share prices, respectively. Karoon Energy Limited (ASX: KAR) and Car Group Limited (ASX: CAR) were the top losers, with 4.652% and 4.360% drop in share prices, respectively.

  • Virgin Australia and Air New Zealand have sought regulatory approval for collaboration on trans-Tasman routes, indicating a potential partnership in the aviation sector.

  • The Dow recorded a positive closure with a gain of 0.47%, while the S&P 500 also saw an uptick of 0.16%. The NASDAQ ended the day higher by 0.07%, indicating a positive overall trend in the US stock market.

  • In contrast, the Hang Seng index witnessed a notable decline of -2.11% and the FTSE 100 in the UK experienced a downturn of -1.01%, reflecting a negative sentiment in European markets on the specified day.
