ASX/200 Closed Lower By 0.29%; Dragged down by Financial

By the end of the trading session on 07 November 2023, the benchmark index S&P/ASX 200 ended lower by 0.22% and settled at 6,977.10. Out of 11 sectors, 05 sectors closed lower along with the ASX 200.



Information Technology and Telecommunications Services sectors were the top-gaining sectors, gaining 1.67% and 0.71% respectively in their index values. Financial and Energy sectors were the top-declining sectors, gaining 1.00% and 0.54% respectively in their index values.



Healius Limited (ASX: HLS) and Weebit Nano Limited (ASX: WBT) were the top gainers, with 5.405% and 3.708% growth in share prices, respectively. Chalice Mining Limited (ASX: CHN) and Sayona Limited (ASX: SYA) were the top losers, with 5.498% and 4.762% drop in share prices, respectively.

Other Factors influencing the market:




  • Origin Energy saw a 1.2% increase in its stock price, reaching $8.64, as proxy adviser Institutional Shareholder Services recommended investors vote in favor of the $US10.5 billion ($20 billion) bid for the electricity generator led by Brookfield consortium.

  • GQG Partners, headquartered in Florida, experienced a 1.8% decrease, with shares dropping to $1.35 due to a $US1.9 billion decline in its funds under management during October.

  • Singapore iron ore futures traded lower in late afternoon trading, with a 0.9% decrease to $US122.65 a tonne on the December contract.

  • Oil maintained a modest increase, following Saudi Arabia and Russia's announcement of extended supply cuts until the year-end, despite a deteriorating demand outlook.

  • The Dow concluded with a 0.66% gain, the S&P 500 showed a 0.94% increase, and the NASDAQ finished higher by 1.38%.

  • The Hang Seng reported a decline of -1.40%, while the FTSE 100 remained unchanged for the day.
