By the end of trading session on 29 August 2025, benchmark index S&P/ASX 200 closed 0.22% lower at 8,973.10. Out of 11 sectors, 06 sectors ended lower along with the S&P/ASX 200.

Information Technology and Energy  are the top-gaining sector, gaining 3.07% and 0.99% in their it’s value. On the other hand, A-REIT and Financial was the top-losing sector, losing 0.78% and 0.57% in it’s value.

NextDC Limited (ASX: NXT) and Austal Limited (ASX: ASB) are the top-gaining stocks, gaining 17.437% and 15.111% in their stock prices. On the other hand, Mesoblast Limited (ASX: MSB) and Pexa Group Limited (ASX: PXA) are the top-losing stocks, losing 18.750% and 12.229% in their stock prices.

  • Harvey Norman climbed 10.4% to $6.82 after reporting a 39% profit increase to $753.1 million, comfortably ahead of market expectations.
  • Property technology firm PEXA dropped 8.6% to $15.46, with its $41 million profit falling 11% short of consensus estimates.
  • Shipbuilder Austal surged 14.5% to $7.73, supported by a record order pipeline and a new shipbuilding partnership with the federal government.
  • Crude oil prices strengthened as the likelihood of a Russia–Ukraine peace agreement diminished, fueling concerns about tighter global supply.
  • On international markets, Wall Street closed mixed—the Dow Jones gained 0.16%, the S&P 500 advanced 0.32%, and the NASDAQ rose 0.53%. 
  • Meanwhile, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng added 0.82%, while London’s FTSE 100 slipped 0.42%.
