ASX/200 Closed Lower by 0.52%, Dragged down by Energy

By the end of trading session on 09 September 2025, benchmark index S&P/ASX 200 closed 0.52% lower at 8,803.50. Out of 11 sectors, 08 sectors ended lower along with the S&P/ASX 200.

Information Technology and Consumer Discretionary were the top-gaining sector, gaining 0.41% and 0.26% in it’s value. On the other hand, Energy and A-REIT were the top-losing sector, losing 0.99% and 0.91% in it’s value.

IDP Education Limited (ASX: IEL) and Vault Minerals Limited (ASX: VAU) are the top-gaining stocks, gaining 4.519% and 4.166% in their stock prices. On the other hand, Polynovo Limited (ASX: PNV) and HMC Capital Group Limited (ASX: HMC) are the top-losing stocks, losing 5.783% and 4.852% in their stock prices.

  • The Australian dollar briefly broke above US66¢ for the first time since late July, supported by a weaker US dollar tracking US bond yields.
  • Gold prices set another record on Tuesday, climbing as traders increased bets on multiple Federal Reserve rate cuts this year.
  • Global markets: US benchmarks closed lower — Dow Jones down 0.25%, S&P 500 off 0.21%, and Nasdaq easing 0.45%.
  • In overseas trade, the Hang Seng gained 0.99%, while the FTSE 100 inched up 0.11%.
