ASX/200 Closer Higher by 0.84%, Lifted by Energy

By the end of the trading session on 06 August 2025, the benchmark index S&P/ASX 200 closed higher by 0.84% and settled at 8,843.70. Out of 11 sectors, 10 sectors ended higher along with the S&P/ASX 200.

Energy and Material are the top-gaining sector, gaining 1.31% and 1.28% in their it’s value. On the other hand, Utilities was the top-losing sector, losing 0.06% in it’s value.

IDP Education Limited (ASX: IEL) and Pinnacle Investment Management Group Limited (ASX: PNI) are the top-gaining stocks, gaining 11.704% and 9.465% in their stock prices. On the other hand, TGP Telecom Limited (ASX: TGP) and Light & Wonder Inc. (ASX: LNW) are the top-losing stocks, losing 5.091% and 4.104% in their stock prices.

Other Factors influencing the market:

  • REA Group Ltd climbed 6.9% to close at $254.50 after declaring a record dividend of $1.38 per share, supported by a strong double-digit increase in both revenue and earnings.
  • News Corp (ASX: NWS) advanced 5.1% to $55.30 following the release of its full-year results, which showed a 2% uplift in revenue to US$8.5 billion (A$13.1 billion) and a 14% rise in earnings to US$1.42 billion.
  • Lindian Resources soared 33% to 12.5¢ after securing a long-term supply agreement for rare earths concentrate with Iluka Resources. Meanwhile, Iluka shares remained relatively unchanged.
  • Pinnacle Investment Management gained 9.5% after reporting a 49% year-on-year increase in full-year net profit to $134.4 million, a result that aligned closely with market expectations.
  • Oil prices continued their downward trajectory, falling for a fourth consecutive session, as Russia considered offering concessions to US President Donald Trump, including a potential ceasefire in Ukraine.
  • On Wall Street, US markets closed with mixed results overnight. The Dow Jones Industrial Average slipped 0.14%, the S&P 500 declined 0.49%, while the NASDAQ Composite dropped by 0.65%.
  • In today’s global markets, the Hang Seng Index edged up 0.03%, and London’s FTSE 100 saw a modest gain of 0.19%.
