Mid-Market: S&P/ASX 200 Trading Higher; Led By Tech Sector

On 19 December 2025, at AEDT 12.10 PM, the benchmark index S&P/ASX 200 is trading higher today, gaining 29.80 points or 0.35%, and is currently trading at 8,618.10 levels. Out of 11, 8 sectors are trading higher along with the gain in the S&P/ASX 200.

The Information Technology and Utilities sectors are the top 2 gaining sectors, gaining 1.82% and 1.53% in their index values. On the other hand, Materials and Energy sectors are the top 2 declining sectors, declining 0.92% and 0.11% in their index values.

Temple & Webster Group Ltd (ASX: TPW) and Catalyst Metals Ltd (ASX: CYL) are the top-gaining stocks, gaining 8.519% and 6.647% in their stock prices. On the other hand, Netwealth Group Limited (ASX: NWL) and Fortescue Limited (ASX: FMG) are the top-losing stocks and are declining by 3.426% and 3.295% in their stock prices.

Factors influencing the market-

  • Australian Share market is gaining following US inflation data revived expectations of further interest rate relief in the world’s largest economy.
  • 4DMedical Limited’s shares surged 20.9% after the company secured a commercial agreement with the Cleveland Clinic to roll out its CT:VQ respiratory imaging technology.
  • Netwealth shares declined 3.43% following its agreement on Thursday to pay $101 million in compensation to superannuation customers who had invested in First Guardian.
  • Austal’s shares rose 2.2% after the shipbuilder won an additional contract extension to build two more Evolved Cape-class patrol boats for the Australian Border Force, with the deal valued at over $135 million.
  • Qube Holdings gained 1.2% after Macquarie Asset Management delivered the necessary confirmation to allow the exclusivity period under their process and exclusivity deed to proceed.
  • The Dow Jones closed up by 0.14%, S&P 500 gained by 0.79% and Nasdaq was up by 1.38% in the previous session.
  • Hang Seng is up by 0.12%, and FTSE 100 is up by 0.65%.
