Highlights

  • A sharp earnings recovery puts the sustainability of portfolio returns in focus.
  • Semiconductor, gold and banking investments powered gains, while betting stocks faced pressure.
  • Dividends and buybacks rewarded shareholders, but an asset-value discount persisted.

FY2026 Delivers Earnings Recovery

Regal Partners Global Investments Limited (ASX: RG1) unveiled its results for the year ended 30 June 2026 on 18 August 2026, recording an after-tax profit of AU$141.6 million. This reversed the previous financial year’s AU$17.6 million loss, as gains across several investment themes strengthened earnings.

Revenue from ordinary activities increased to AU$232.37 million, compared to AU$6.95 million in FY2025. Earnings per share reached 58.28 cents, compared to a loss of 6.70 cents.

Technology and Banks Lead Gains

The investment portfolio generated a net return of 43.3%, compared to negative 3.0% a year earlier. Shareholders received a total return of 40.7%, excluding franking benefits.

SK Hynix and Samsung Electronics provided the largest individual contributions. Growing artificial intelligence investment supported demand for their memory chips, and the portfolio sold both positions during the fourth quarter.

Gold producers Vault Minerals and Orezone Gold also contributed meaningfully, alongside European banking investments CaixaBank and Lloyds Banking Group.

The strategy benefited from falling prices in selected companies through short positions, particularly Pop Mart International and BellRing Brands. Conversely, holdings in Entain and Flutter Entertainment detracted from returns as prediction-market competition and higher UK gambling taxes unsettled investors.

Capital Returns Remain Central

A fully franked final dividend of AU$0.05 per share lifted total FY2026 dividends to AU$0.11. The announcement specified a 27 August record date and payment scheduled for 25 September 2026.

The company also spent AU$28.6 million repurchasing approximately 13.14 million shares during FY2026. Purchases below net tangible asset value increased asset backing for remaining shares.

Nevertheless, the market price continued to trail the company’s stated post-tax net tangible assets measure. That discount stood at 10.2% at June-end, compared to approximately 13% twelve months earlier.

Outlook: Building Beyond the Rebound

Maintaining returns after a strong recovery is the next challenge. Management continues to identify opportunities in European banks and gold equities, although economic conditions, geopolitical developments and company performance could reshape investment outcomes.

The board intends to consider selective buybacks alongside dividends. Future distributions will reflect realised investment gains and available franking credits, while reducing the share-price discount remains a priority.
