ABS provided data on quarterly tourism labour statistics

According to the data provided by the Australian Bureau of Statistics, there were 676,400 tourism jobs created in the December quarter of 2022. This represents a 12.1% increase compared to the September quarter 2022 and a 42.1% increase over the previous corresponding period. These tourism jobs also represent 1 in 23 filled jobs in the economy.

During the December quarter, cafes, restaurants and takeaway food services, retail trade, and accommodation saw the largest quarterly changes with an increase of 11.7%, 27.2%, and 8.6%, respectively. Compared to the September 2022 quarter, in the December quarter, full-time jobs increased by 16.5% while part-time jobs increased by 7.9%, and compared to the previous corresponding period, full-time jobs increased by 47.2% while part-time jobs increased by 37.1%.
