BOQ Enhances Capital Position Through Strategic Partnership
Bank of Queensland (ASX:BOQ) has formed a strategic partnership with Challenger Limited to strengthen its balance sheet and expand its equipment finance business, particularly in the SME segment. The agreement includes an AU$3.7 billion whole-of-loan sale alongside a forward flow arrangement, enabling improved funding efficiency and capital-light growth.
The transaction is expected to reduce debt funding by approximately AU$3.4 billion and support a return of around AU$300 million to shareholders via buybacks and dividends. BOQ will continue managing customer relationships and earn non-interest income, while credit risk is transferred to Challenger. Importantly, the bank maintains a strong Common Equity Tier 1 (CET1) ratio within its target range of 10.25% to 10.75%. Overall, the initiative aligns with BOQ’s strategy to become a simpler, specialist bank, enhancing Return on Equity and Earnings Per Share while supporting scalable and efficient growth.
