Chimeric Therapeutics Halts CHM-2101 Trial and Shifts Focus to In Vivo CDH17 Therapy
Chimeric Therapeutics Limited (ASX: CHM) has stopped enrolment and dosing in its CHM-2101 Phase 1 trial after a second patient at Dose Level 3 experienced dose-limiting toxicity. The Safety Monitoring Committee concluded that the dose level was unsafe, prompting cessation under the study protocol. Despite the safety setback, anti-tumour activity was observed across all 14 treated patients, supporting CDH17 as a potential therapeutic target for gastrointestinal cancers.
The company will not advance CHM-2101 in its existing autologous CAR-T form and will instead explore an in vivo CDH17 approach, which could offer a faster and lower-cost development pathway. Chimeric has also initiated cost reductions expected to save approximately AU$4 million annually. However, future development depends on securing additional funding, while planned creditor negotiations and material uncertainty regarding the company’s going-concern position highlight significant financial risks.
