Variscan Accelerates Exploration and Mine Restart Activities at Novales Project
Variscan Mines Limited (ASX: VAR) has reported strong progress across its Novales Project in northern Spain, with multiple exploration and development activities advancing simultaneously. The company has completed a channel sampling program at the historic Emilia Mine, with assay results pending, while underground drilling is underway to expand the known mineralised footprint. Surface drilling is also scheduled to commence in June, targeting high-priority zinc prospects along the 12-kilometre San José–Udías mineralised trend.
Historical results from Emilia highlighted several high-grade zinc intersections, reinforcing its exploration potential. At Udías, infrastructure upgrades, including additional power capacity, are progressing to support a larger underground drilling campaign aimed at extending mineralisation beyond the current resource estimate.
Variscan is also advancing studies required for the planned restart of the San José Mine, including hydrogeological and environmental assessments. The company views Novales as a district-scale zinc opportunity, supported by extensive historical mining activity, existing infrastructure, and significant exploration upside across multiple target areas.
