ASX 200 Closed Higher By 0.71%; Ahead Of U.S. Feds Conference
By the end of the trading session on 25 August 2022, the benchmark index S&P/ASX 200 ended higher by 0.71% and settled at 7,048.10. Out of 11 sectors, 9 sectors closed higher along with the ASX 200.
The A-REIT and Energy sectors were the top 2 gaining sectors, gained 2.40% and 1.60% in their index value. On the other hand, the Consumer Staples and Utilities sectors were the top 2 losing sectors, declined 1.83% and 0.59% in their index values.
Paladin Energy Limited (ASX: PDN) and Insignia Financial Ltd (ASX: IFL) were the top gainers with 11.564% and 11.356% growth in share prices, respectively. On the other hand, Kelsian Group Limited (ASX: KLS) and Domino’s Pizza Enterprises Limited (ASX: DMP) were the top losers, with 12.265% and 9.550% drop in share prices, respectively.
The Australian share market closed in the green. At the same time, the dollar was slightly weaker today, with investors nervously awaiting the U.S. Federal Reserve's annual Jackson Hole conference for clues on how sharp future interest rate hikes might be.
The Australian dollar bounced today, and bond yields rose ahead of U.S. Federal Reserve chairman Jerome Powell's high-profile speech at Jackson Hole, Wyoming, on Friday.
Insignia Financial’s share price jumped following the company reported an increase of 59% in its underlying profit after tax as it realised the scale added by its blockbuster acquisition of National Australia Bank’s MLC Wealth last year.
NEC’s share price surged after it delivered a profit of $315 million, increased about 35% on an underlying basis, and increased dividends.
Pendal Group Limited's share price gained after Investment firm Perpetual has agreed to buy Pendal after long-running talks finally ended in an agreement to create a $201 billion global asset manager.
Oil prices edged higher Thursday, helped by ongoing supply tightness and signs of strong demand in the U.S., the world's largest consumer.
Dow has closed up 0.1%, S&P 500 up by 0.2%, and NASDAQ closed higher by 0.5%.
FTSE 100 is down by 0.22%.
