ASX/200 Closed Lower by 0.03%, Dragged down by Healthcare

By the end of the trading session on 05 June 2025, the benchmark index S&P/ASX 200 closed lower by 0.03% and settled at 8,538.90. Out of the 11 sectors, 07 sectors ended lower along with the S&P/ASX 200.

Information Technology and A-REIT is the top-gaining sector, gaining 0.71% and 0.68% in their it’s value. On the other hand, Healthcare and Utilities are the top-losing sector, losing 0.77% and 0.67% in their index value.

Mineral Resources Limited (ASX: MIN) and Lynas Rare Earths Limited (ASX: LYC) are the top-gaining stocks, gaining 14.802% and 12.515% in their stock prices. On the other hand, IDP Education Limited (ASX: IEL) and Healius Limited (ASX: HLS) are the top-losing stocks, losing 6.350% and 4.598% in their stock prices.

  • IperionX surged 28.8% to $4.78 after securing a significant contract from the US Department of Defence, valued at up to US$99 million, to supply titanium components. The deal aligns with efforts by the Trump administration to strengthen the domestic supply chain for critical minerals.
  • Tyro Payments dropped 10.4% to 82¢ following the announcement that CEO Jon Davey will resign to lead a private equity-backed company.
  • Pacific Current Group fell 4.9% to $10.80 after media reports alleged that Abacus Global Management, a Nasdaq-listed firm in which it holds an investment, has been “systematically overvaluing” its assets.
  • Catapult Group International declined 1% to $6.16 after revealing it had acquired US-based sports tech firm Perch in a deal worth US$18 million.
  • The world’s largest wealth manager has identified the Australian dollar as a top trade to position against the fading dominance of the US economy, citing growing concerns over America’s rising debt levels and weakening investor confidence in the greenback.
  • Equity markets delivered a mixed performance overnight. On Wall Street, the Dow Jones Industrial Average slipped 0.22%, while the S&P 500 edged up 0.01% and the NASDAQ Composite rose 0.32%. 
  • Meanwhile, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index gained 0.71% at the time of writing.
