Market Alert : Crude Turns Volatile Amid Delay in U.S. Military Action on Iran; Bond Markets Near Multi-Year Highs

ASX/200 Closed Higher by 1.66%, Lifted by Financials

By the end of trading session on 11 February 2026, benchmark index S&P/ASX 200 closed 1.66% higher at 9,014.80. Out of 11 sectors, 08 sectors ended higher along with the S&P/ASX 200.



Financials and Utilities were the top-gaining sectors, gaining 3.48% and 2.42% in their values. On the other hand, Health care and A-REIT were the top-losing sectors, losing 2.50% and 0.31% in its value.



Aussie Broadband Limited (ASX: ABB) and Agl Energy Limited (ASX: AGL) are the top-gaining stocks, gaining  14.790% and 11.751% in their stock prices. On the other hand, CSL Limited (ASX: CSL) and Resmed Inc (ASX: RMD) are the top-losing stocks, losing 11.000% and 4.566% in their stock prices.

Other Factors influencing the market:




  • AGL Energy surged 11.8 per cent to AU$9.89 after delivering earnings 7 per cent ahead of consensus expectations. The company reported half-year profit of AU$351 million, exceeding forecasts by 21 per cent, while its interim dividend of AU$2.44 per share also came in above market estimates, according to Citi.

  • Aussie Broadband rallied 14.8 per cent to AU$5.20 following an agreement to acquire AGL Energy’s telecommunications division and associated customer assets. As part of the transaction, approximately AU$115 million in shares will be issued to AGL.

  • Oil prices edged higher as geopolitical tensions involving Iran outweighed a US industry report showing a sharp build in crude inventories. West Texas Intermediate traded above US$64 per barrel after a modest decline in the prior session, while Brent crude hovered near US$69.

  • At the time of writing, global equity markets were mixed. The Dow Jones Industrial Average recorded a modest gain of 0.10 per cent, while the S&P 500 declined by 0.33 per cent and the Nasdaq Composite retreated 0.59 per cent.

  • A 0.31 per cent increase in the Hang Seng was accompanied by a 0.21 per cent gain in the FTSE 100.
