ASX/200 Closed Higher by 1.74%, Lifted by Information Technology
By the end of trading session on 07 April 2026, benchmark index S&P/ASX 200 closed 1.74% higher at 8,728.80. All 11 sectors sectors ended higher along with the S&P/ASX 200.
Information Technology and Materials were the top-gaining sectors, gaining 3.98% and 2.61% in their values.
Guzman Y Gomez Limited (ASX: GYG) and NextDC Limited (ASX: NXT) are the top-gaining stocks, gaining 18.552% and 11.900% in their stock prices. On the other hand, Mesoblast Limited (ASX: MSB) and Stockland Limited (ASX: SGP) are the top-losing stocks, losing 6.808% and 3.399% in their stock prices.
Bank of Queensland shares surged 6.9% to $7.27 after announcing a strategic partnership with Challenger. The agreement is expected to enable the bank to return approximately $300 million to shareholders through a mix of share buybacks and a special dividend.
Guzman y Gomez jumped 18.6% to $18.02, marking its strongest single-day gain since listing in 2024, after reporting robust third-quarter sales growth of 19.5%, which exceeded market expectations.
Domino’s Pizza Enterprises advanced 6.7% to $17.06 following an upgrade from Citi, which revised its rating from “sell” to “neutral” in response to improved sector sentiment after Guzman y Gomez’s update.
Goldman Sachs cautioned that copper prices could face additional downside pressure if disruptions continue in the Strait of Hormuz, highlighting growing risks in global metals markets linked to geopolitical tensions involving Iran.
Oil prices extended gains for a third consecutive session as US President Donald Trump intensified warnings of potential strikes on critical Iranian infrastructure if negotiations fail ahead of a set deadline.
Global markets showed mixed trends. In the United States, the Dow Jones rose 0.36%, the S&P 500 gained 0.44%, and the Nasdaq advanced 0.54%.
Meanwhile, the Hang Seng declined 0.70%, and the FTSE 100 slipped 0.28%.
