Highlights

  • Three senior appointments were unveiled on 21 September 2026, the first significant moves by chief executive Anthony Attia.
  • Keir Barnes arrives from Dexus to take the finance chief's chair; Elaine Vaisanen becomes COO and Mark Peterson heads a new clearing and settlement role.
  • Separately, the exchange operator banked roughly AU$106.09 million through its dividend reinvestment plan and set its annual meeting for 22 October.

A refreshed leadership bench

ASX Limited (ASX: ASX) reshaped the top of its organisation on 21 September 2026, naming a chief financial officer plus two other executives who will sit on its leadership team and report to the managing director. Keir Barnes takes finance. She has run the books at property group Dexus since 2021, having spent two years as deputy there beforehand, and carries more than two decades across funds management, corporate advisory and chartered accounting. Incumbent Andrew Tobin, whose retirement was flagged earlier in 2026, stays on until she arrives.

Mark Peterson picks up a newly created clearing and settlement post from November. The 35-year veteran ran New Zealand's NZX for nine years to April 2026 and will answer to both Attia and the separate clearing and settlement boards. Elaine Vaisanen steps in as chief operating officer from December, replacing the departing Diona Rae, and will also drive the Accelerate transformation agenda. Her background is largely J.P. Morgan, most recently leading APAC fund services. Attia, who began on 1 September, said the trio add depth and global experience to a business he described as central to Australia's capital markets.

Capital raised through the DRP

A cleansing notice issued the same day confirmed ASX placed 697,044 fresh ordinary shares with underwriter Barrenjoey Markets at AU$55.58 apiece. Tied to the FY26 final dividend reinvestment plan announced on 26 August 2026, the exercise generated about AU$106.09 million — roughly AU$67.34 million from plan participants and AU$38.74 million via the underwriter.

Annual meeting locked in

Shareholders gather at 10:00am on Thursday 22 October at Sydney's Amora Hotel. Ballot items include the remuneration report, a AU$2 million long-term performance rights grant to Attia, and four board seats: re-elections for Vicki Carter and Luke Randell, plus first-time elections for Dee McGrath and Vic Jokovic. Votes close 10:00am on 20 October.

What it adds up to

Taken together, Monday's filings sketch an exchange operator rebuilding its executive ranks and topping up its balance sheet at the same time. Fresh faces in finance, operations and clearing give Attia a team of his own choosing barely three weeks into the job, while the reinvestment plan hands the company a meaningful cash buffer at a point when ASX has signalled heavier investment and regulatory capital demands ahead. Next month's meeting becomes the first real test of shareholder sentiment toward that agenda, with the vote on Attia's incentive package the sharpest gauge of whether investors back the direction he has begun setting. Shares last traded at AU$55.800, up AU$0.070 or 0.125%.
