Capricorn Metals Extends ASX Rally as Karlawinda Expansion Hits Full Throughput

Capricorn Metals Extends ASX Rally as Karlawinda Expansion Hits Full Throughput Source: Kapitales Research

Highlights:

  • Karlawinda’s expansion is complete, but the next production phase could prove more important.
  • Throughput has reached 6.5 million tonnes annually as Capricorn transitions toward steady-state operations.
  • A 150,000-ounce production profile now comes into focus, with optimisation still underway.

Karlawinda Milestone Drives Gains

Capricorn Metals Ltd (ASX: CMM) announced on 23 September 2026 that its Karlawinda Expansion Project had been completed on schedule, with continuous ore processing commencing through the newly installed infrastructure. The gold producer emerged as one of the S&P/ASX 200’s top five gainers at the opening bell, as investors responded positively to the operational milestone. Capricorn Metals was trading at a Current market price (CMP) of AU$16.07, representing a gain of approximately 3.80%.

Expansion Reaches Target Capacity

Capricorn has completed construction and commissioning of the Karlawinda Expansion Project after a 12-month delivery period. All components of the new processing plant are operational, including parallel crushing, milling and carbon-in-leach circuits.

The expanded operation has already achieved its targeted steady-state processing capacity of 6.5 million tonnes per annum. The plant is initially treating lower-grade material before shifting toward run-of-mine grade ore as operations stabilise. Further optimisation of product size from the new crushing circuit remains underway.

Higher Gold Output Ahead

The expansion materially increases Karlawinda’s operating scale. Capricorn expects the enlarged project to produce around 150,000 ounces of gold annually, supported by existing reserves that provide a mine life exceeding ten years.

The commencement of continuous processing also reduces a key execution uncertainty associated with bringing the expansion into operation. However, reaching targeted capacity does not automatically guarantee consistent production performance, leaving throughput stability, ore grades and recoveries important areas for investors to monitor.

Outlook: Execution Takes Centre Stage

Capricorn’s immediate focus now shifts from construction to maintaining reliable steady-state operations. Successful processing of run-of-mine ore and further circuit optimisation could support the planned uplift in annual gold production.

The share-price rise at the opening bell indicates a favourable initial market response. From here, sustained momentum may depend on whether higher plant capacity translates into stronger gold output and operating performance. Commodity-price volatility, production costs, currency movements, ore grades and recovery rates remain relevant risks as Karlawinda enters its expanded operating phase.
