Highlights

  • Resources Victoria has accepted the Mining Licence Application for Sunday Creek.
  • The 30.7-hectare application area covers the historic Golden Dyke workings.
  • SX2 shares were up 1.38% at AU$13.23.

Southern Cross Gold Consolidated Ltd (ASX: SX2) announced on 23 September 2026 that Resources Victoria has accepted its Mining Licence Application, MIN009040, for the Sunday Creek Gold-Antimony Project. The regulator accepted the application on 22 September 2026. Sunday Creek is located about 60km north of Melbourne.

Application Covers Golden Dyke

Clonbinane Goldfield Pty Ltd, the Southern Cross subsidiary that already holds the project's licences, submitted the application on the company's behalf. It covers about 30.7 hectares of company-owned freehold land over the historic Golden Dyke workings. Much of the company's detailed drilling has focused on this area. Southern Cross says it now has enough information on the gold and antimony mineralisation in and around the old workings to assess the potential for future underground mining.

A First Step, Not a Right to Mine

CEO and Managing Director Michael Hudson stressed that a mining licence is "a starting point, not a right to mine." Before any mining can begin, the company would still need to:

  • Secure planning approval, or complete an Environment Effects Statement where the regulator requires one.
  • Gain Resources Victoria's sign-off on a detailed Mine Work Plan.
  • Put up a rehabilitation bond, take out public liability cover and provide a week's written notice ahead of any work.

Hudson added that the project already supports around 120 jobs, and that global demand for new antimony supply is growing faster than expected.

Public Consultation Period

The application will be advertised in The North Central Review and The Age from the week of 28 September 2026. Anyone can comment on or object to it within 21 days of the last advertisement. Resources Victoria will then make a recommendation to the Minister for Resources, whose decision is due within 120 days of acceptance.

Antimony Adds Strategic Value

Antimony is on the critical minerals lists of Australia, the US, Canada, Japan and the EU, and China controls about 56% of global mined supply. Antimony accounts for roughly 15–17% of Sunday Creek's in-situ recoverable value.

The project has returned 98 intersections above 100 g/t gold from 142.5km of drilling. A further 200km drill program is planned through the first quarter of 2027. The company may also apply for licences over the Christina, Rising Sun and Apollo areas if drilling there proves similarly promising. SX2 shares were trading at AU$13.23, up AU$0.179 (1.38%), on 23 September 2026.
