Centaurus Metals Secures Power Transmission Contract for Jaguar Nickel Project
Source: Kapitales Research
Highlights
Centaurus Metals has executed a CUST for reliable, low-cost grid power at its Jaguar Nickel Sulphide Project in Brazil.
The agreement secures access to Brazil’s 230kV high-voltage transmission network, with an initial 20MW allocation.
The contract marks another infrastructure milestone as the company progresses toward a Final Investment Decision and broader project funding.
Centaurus Metals Limited (ASX: CTM) said on 2 October 2026 that Centaurus Níquel Ltda., its wholly owned Brazilian subsidiary has signed a Transmission System Use Contract (CUST) with Brazil’s National Electricity System Operator (ONS). The agreement relates to the company's Jaguar Nickel Sulphide Project, located in the state of Pará.
The agreement follows regulatory approval received from ONS in July 2026 for access to Brazil’s high-voltage national electricity grid. Under the CUST, Jaguar will receive an initial allocation of 20MW through a 36-kilometre transmission line connecting the project to its main substation. 03143650 Centaurus Metals Limited was trading at AU$0.490 as of 6 October 2026, up AU$0.029 or 6.521% on the day.
Reliable Power to Support Project Development
Access to dependable and competitively priced electricity is expected to be an important component of Jaguar’s development strategy. According to the company, the project is targeting a bottom-quartile position on the global nickel cost curve, with access to largely renewable grid power identified as a key contributor to this objective. The execution of the CUST also represents an infrastructure de-risking milestone ahead of the company’s planned Final Investment Decision (FID). The project has already obtained the necessary environmental and mining approvals, as well as the mining easement needed to develop the transmission line.
Next Steps and Jaguar Funding Progress
Following the CUST execution, Centaurus expects to submit the signed contract and associated connection documents to Brazil’s National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel) to seek authorisation for the project’s connection facilities. The company plans to execute a Transmission Connection Contract (CCT) with the existing transmission line’s concession holder. At the same time, the company reported that discussions and final documentation for additional offtake arrangements and strategic funding for the Jaguar project are progressing well.
The company is also advancing its senior debt financing efforts as it works to finalise a comprehensive funding package for the project’s FID and subsequent development. The signing of the CUST therefore adds another key piece to Jaguar’s infrastructure and funding pathway, strengthening the project’s readiness as Centaurus advances toward its next major development milestones.
