The rally followed a series of corporate announcements highlighting operational improvements, strategic partnerships and long-term growth opportunities, attracting renewed investor interest across the resources and healthcare sectors.

Can Coronado’s Operational Recovery Mark a Turning Point?

Among the day's strongest performers, Coronado Global Resources Inc. attracted significant buying interest after releasing its June 2026 Quarterly Report on 29 July 2026, outlining a substantial improvement in operating performance following challenges experienced earlier this year. The update pointed to stronger production, lower operating costs and a return to positive earnings, suggesting that the company's turnaround strategy is beginning to gain momentum.

The metallurgical coal producer reported that group run-of-mine (ROM) production increased 18.4% from the March quarter to 6.4 million tonnes, while saleable production rose 39.3% to 4.1 million tonnes. The strongest operational improvement came from the Curragh complex, where saleable production climbed 75.6%, supported by improved plant reliability, stronger throughput and the completion of previously planned maintenance activities. Buchanan also continued to benefit from its completed expansion project, delivering record first-half production and establishing a higher operating run rate expected to support future earnings.

Cost discipline also contributed to the stronger quarterly outcome. The company reported a 27.7% quarter-on-quarter reduction in group mining cash costs to US$97.9 per tonne, supported by increased production, stronger operating efficiencies and improved plant performance. Meanwhile, the company ended the quarter with approximately US$98 million in cash while continuing to progress initiatives designed to improve liquidity and strengthen financial flexibility. Management also expects the proposed sale of the Logan Complex to reduce future cash flow pressure and improve the group's earnings profile.

Looking ahead, Coronado believes ongoing operational improvements, higher production rates and a greater share of metallurgical coal sales will strengthen earnings and free cash flow during the second half of 2026. The company also expects its structural, operational and commercial reset programme to deliver further productivity gains as implementation progresses.

Why Is AFT Pharmaceuticals’ Innovation Pipeline Drawing Attention?

AFT Pharmaceuticals Limited also emerged among the session's top gainers after outlining the commercial potential of its expanding research and development portfolio. In an announcement released on 28 July 2026, the company presented investors with an overview of its pipeline, highlighting multiple patented and late-stage projects targeting sizeable global healthcare markets.According to the company, its development portfolio now comprises eight patented projects, 24 off-patent injectable products, and several early-stage commercial opportunities. AFT stated that these programmes collectively address multi-billion-dollar markets, while its growing international business hubs across Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Hong Kong, the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom could eventually provide direct access to as much as 50% of the global market for selected products.

Among the most significant opportunities highlighted was an intravenous iron therapy designed to improve patient convenience by enabling treatment through a single dose while addressing a market estimated at US$7.4 billion. The company also outlined progress in therapies targeting Port Wine Stains and Facial Angiofibromas, a room-temperature storage technology for intravenous medicines and treatments for infantile haemangioma, with several programmes individually targeting markets exceeding US$1 billion.

Could Ioneer’s Strategic Partnerships Accelerate Its Flagship Project?

Ioneer Ltd (ASX: INR) also featured among the day's notable gainers after reinforcing the development pathway for its flagship Rhyolite Ridge Lithium-Boron Project. On 8 July 2026, Ioneer announced the signing of separate non-binding MOUs with the Korea Overseas Infrastructure & Urban Development Corporation (KIND) and Hyundai Engineering Co. Ltd. to support the continued development of its Rhyolite Ridge Lithium-Boron Project. As outlined by the company, KIND will evaluate a potential equity investment, while Hyundai Engineering will examine procurement-related opportunities associated with the project's development. Although the agreements are non-binding, they represent another milestone for Rhyolite Ridge, which is regarded as one of the few known lithium-boron deposits globally and the only project of its kind currently under active development in North America. The company stated that more than US$220 million has already been invested in the project, with over 70% of advanced engineering work completed.

Rhyolite Ridge is expected to play an important role in strengthening domestic critical mineral supply chains within the United States while supporting demand from electric vehicle and battery manufacturers. Once operational, the project is expected to process ore entirely on-site and create between 275 and 300 permanent jobs in Nevada. The company stated that these agreements strengthen the development pathway for Rhyolite Ridge and underscore its importance in supporting critical mineral supply chains across the United States and South Korea.

The company also highlighted that Rhyolite Ridge secured a US$996 million loan from the U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Energy Dominance Financing in January 2025 and previously received its final federal permit in October 2024. In addition, Ioneer has entered into offtake agreements with major automotive and battery manufacturers, providing further support for the project's long-term commercial outlook.

What Is Driving Investor Optimism?

Although the three companies operate across different industries, each released updates that pointed to stronger long-term prospects. Coronado demonstrated improving operational efficiency and financial recovery, AFT Pharmaceuticals showcased an expanding innovation pipeline targeting sizeable healthcare markets, while Ioneer strengthened strategic partnerships for a critical minerals project that could become an important contributor to North America's battery supply chain.

These announcements also highlighted broader themes currently attracting investor attention, including operational execution, innovation-led growth and the global transition towards secure supplies of critical minerals. Companies capable of demonstrating measurable progress against these priorities may continue to remain on investors' watchlists as markets assess future earnings potential.

Outlook

The latest announcements indicate that each company is pursuing distinct strategies to strengthen its competitive position. Coronado is focused on improving productivity and restoring profitability through operational and commercial initiatives. AFT Pharmaceuticals continues to invest in developing differentiated pharmaceutical products capable of addressing large global markets, while Ioneer is progressing a strategically significant lithium-boron project supported by international partnerships and government-backed financing.

As investors continue to evaluate corporate execution alongside broader economic conditions, future updates on production performance, research and development milestones, financing progress and project approvals are likely to remain important catalysts for these ASX-listed companies.Note- All data presented is based on information available at the time of writing.Disclaimer for Kapitales ResearchThe materials provided by Kapitales Research, including articles, news, data, reports, opinions, images, charts, and videos ("Content"), are intended for personal, non-commercial use only.
