AustChina Commences REE Assessment at Blackall Project

AustChina Holdings Limited (ASX: AUH) has begun evaluating the rare earth element (REE) potential of its Blackall Project in central western Queensland, marking a strategic step in broadening the value of its substantial coal resource base. The Company has submitted 40 samples from its 2023 resource drilling program for laboratory analysis to determine the presence and distribution of REEs within coal seams, adjacent sediments, and associated geological units. 

This initiative follows research indicating strong correlations between coal deposits and REE enrichment, including occurrences in siltstone, shale, inter-seam materials, and coal by-products such as fly ash. With REEs playing a critical role in high-growth sectors including electronics, batteries, and renewable technologies, the investigation aligns with AustChina’s focus on alternative processes that may unlock additional project value. Results from the assays are expected next quarter, and any significant findings will be released. CEO Andrew Fogg emphasised that successful REE extraction could offer meaningful environmental and economic benefits.
