Burgundy Diamond Mines Limited (ASX: BDM) has placed its subsidiary, Arctic Canadian Diamond Company Ltd. (ACDC), under creditor protection through Canada’s Companies’ Creditors Arrangement Act, following a court order in British Columbia. The move enables the company to initiate structured discussions with lenders and stakeholders to assess financial and operational restructuring pathways. The decision reflects ongoing challenges across the global diamond sector, including subdued demand for natural diamonds, tariff-related pressures, and rising operating costs, particularly fuel expenses linked to geopolitical tensions. Despite cost reduction initiatives and strategic adjustments, management determined that formal protection offers the most effective route to stabilise the business. Importantly, operations at the Ekati Diamond Mine will continue throughout the process, ensuring business continuity. A court-appointed monitor will oversee proceedings, while Burgundy aims to preserve long-term value and reposition the asset for improved performance.
