Market Alert : Can the ASX 200 Maintain Its Upward Momentum Through Earnings Season?

ASX/200 Closed Higher By 0.63%; Lifted by Healthcare

By the end of the trading session on 28 August 2023, the benchmark index S&P/ASX 200 ended higher by 0.63% and settled at 7,159.80. Out of 11 sectors, 02 sectors closed lower along with the ASX 200.

Consumer Staples and Consumer Discretionary sectors were the top-gaining sectors, gaining 0.68% and 0.30% respectively in their index values. Information Technology and Materials sectors were the top-declining sectors, gaining 2.51% and 1.55% respectively in their index values.

Tabcorp Holdings Limited (ASX: TAH) and Ventia Services Limited (ASX: VNT) were the top gainers, with 4.950% and 4.511% growth in share prices, respectively. Sayona Mining Limited (ASX: SYA) and Brainchip Holdings Limited (ASX: BRN) were the top losers, with 27.200% and 10.770% drop in share prices, respectively.

  • Chinese stocks experienced a surge following the announcement of various measures aimed at attracting investors.
  • Oil prices advanced for the third consecutive day due to China's efforts to stimulate its stock and property markets.
  • The Dow recorded a closing increase of 0.73%, the S&P 500 rose by 0.67%, and the NASDAQ concluded with a gain of 0.94%.
  • The Hang Seng index displayed a rise of 1.18%, while the FTSE 100 showed a minor increase of 0.07% during the day
