ASX/200 Closed Higher by 0.31%, Lifted by Financial

By the end of trading session on 10 September 2025, benchmark index S&P/ASX 200 closed 0.31% higher at 8,830.40. Out of 11 sectors, 09 sectors ended higher along with the S&P/ASX 200.

Financial and Telecommunications Services were the top-gaining sectors, gaining 1.32% and 0.91% in it’s value. On the other hand, Materials and Energy were the top-losing sectors, losing 1.70% and 0.10% in it’s value.

Clarity Pharmceuticals Limited (ASX: IEL) and Judo Capital Holdings Limited (ASX: VAU) are the top-gaining stocks, gaining 7.096% and 4.531% in their stock prices. On the other hand, Liontown Resources Limited (ASX: PNV) and Pilbara Mineral Limited (ASX: HMC) are the top-losing stocks, losing 18.422% and 17.292% in their stock prices.

Other Factors influencing the market:

  • Vulcan Energy Resources (ASX: VUL) slipped 3.4 per cent to $3.75 even after securing approval to construct and operate its central lithium facility in Frankfurt, Germany, which will produce battery-grade lithium hydroxide monohydrate.
  • Iluka Resources (ASX: ILU) was among the sharpest fallers, plunging more than 14 per cent to $5.55, after announcing plans to suspend operations at its Cataby mine in Western Australia from December 1, citing weak demand for mineral sands.
  • Meanwhile, Metcash Limited (ASX: MTS) ended the day flat at $4.03. The stock had a volatile session after the company flagged around $19 million in additional costs across its operations, which are expected to weigh on first-half 2026 earnings.
  • Gold prices inched higher on Wednesday, staying above the key $US3600-per-ounce threshold. The metal was supported by growing expectations of a U.S. interest rate cut later this month, while investors also awaited crucial inflation data due this week.
  • U.S. indices: Dow Jones gained 0.43%, S&P 500 rose 0.27%, and Nasdaq advanced 0.37%.
  • Asia & Europe: Hong Kong’s Hang Seng climbed 1.05%, while London’s FTSE 100 added 0.19%.
