ASX/200 Closed Lower by 1.82%, Dragged down by Information Technology

By the end of trading session on 03 September 2025, benchmark index S&P/ASX 200 closed 1.82% lower at 8,738.80. All of the 11 sectors ended lower along with the S&P/ASX 200.

Information Technology and Financial was the top-losing sector, losing 3.85% and 2.76% in it’s value.

Graincorp Limited (ASX: GNC) and Tabcorp Holdings Limited (ASX: TAH) are the top-gaining stocks, gaining 3.681% and 2.970% in their stock prices. On the other hand, Xero Limited (ASX: XRO) and Lendlease Group Limited (ASX: LLC) are the top-losing stocks, losing 6.202% and 5.236% in their stock prices.

  • GrainCorp Limited (ASX: GNC) advanced 3.7% to $8.45 after RBC Capital Markets raised its short-term price target for Australia’s largest agribusiness to $10.50, citing expectations of a strong winter crop.
  • Australian government bond yields edged higher, with the three-year yield—closely watched for policy signals—up one basis point to 3.45%, its highest since late July. The move followed stronger-than-expected GDP growth in the June quarter.
  • In energy markets, oil prices held firm in Asian trade on Wednesday, sustaining gains from the previous session as supply concerns driven by sanctions continued to underpin sentiment.
  • On the global stage, US markets ended mixed: the Dow Jones dropped 0.55%, the S&P 500 declined 0.69%, and the Nasdaq retreated 0.82%. 
  • Meanwhile, the Hang Seng slipped 0.70%, while London’s FTSE 100 edged up 0.17%.
