S&P/ASX 200 Closed Higher; Buoyed By Banking And Mining Stocks

By the end of the trading session on 12 September 2025, the benchmark index S&P/ASX 200 ended higher by 0.68% and settled at AU$8,864.90. Out of 11, 7 sectors closed higher along with the ASX 200.

The Materials and A-REIT sectors were the top 2 gaining sectors, gained 1.45% and 1.35% in their index values. On the other hand, the Energy and Consumer Discretionary sectors were the top 2 declining sectors, declined by 2.43% and 0.67% in their index values.

Bellevue Gold Limited (ASX: BGL) and Regis Resources Limited (ASX: RRL) were the top gainers, with 7.182% and 6.422% growth in share prices, respectively. On the other hand, Mesoblast Limited (ASX: MSB) and Aristocrat Leisure Limited (ASX: ALL) were the top losers, with a 4.742% and 3.971% drop in share prices, respectively.

  • The S&P/ASX 200 closed higher, tracking gains that pushed Wall Street to record highs after August US inflation data bolstered expectations for rate cuts.
  • The Material sector was one of the top performing sector today as gold stocks were a standout, with Regis Resources up 6.4%, and Bellevue Gold up 7.2% and Capricorn Metals adding 3.8%. That’s after the precious metal extended gains in early trading, hitting as high as US$3639 an ounce.
  • BSP Financial’s shares closed higher, also known as Bank South Pacific, rallied 12.8% after it announced that the Papua New Guinea prime minister had assured the bank that it would continue to service and maintain government accounts.
  • Ventia Services Limited’s shares rose today after its contract to maintain City of Sydney facilities was extended for $100 million over two years.
  • The Dow has closed up by 1.36%, the S&P 500 closed up by 0.85%, and the NASDAQ ended higher by 0.72%.
  • Hang Seng is up by 1.10%, and FTSE 100 is up by 0.40%.
