FireFly Metals Discovers High-Grade Copper-Gold System at Mount Joy in Canada

Highlights:

  • Exploration drilling intersected 22.5 metres at 2.5% copper equivalent (CuEq), including a higher-grade 9-metre interval at 3.9% CuEq.
  • Follow-up drilling identified approximately 40 metres of semi-massive sulphide mineralisation, with laboratory assay results pending.
  • The company plans further regional exploration while progressing towards an updated Mineral Resource Estimate and Feasibility Study in the first quarter of 2027.

New Copper-Gold Discovery at Green Bay Project

FireFly Metals Ltd (ASX: FFM) announced a significant copper-gold discovery at its Green Bay Copper-Gold Project in Newfoundland, Canada, on 27 October 2026. The discovery was made at the Mount Joy prospect within the historic Tilt Cove–Betts Cove mining district, marking an encouraging outcome from the company’s first drilling campaign in the area.

Mount Joy was identified through extensive geophysical and geochemical exploration. The initial drilling results indicate the presence of a potentially substantial volcanogenic massive sulphide (VMS) system, a deposit type that can contain economically important concentrations of copper and other metals.

The discovery is approximately 35 kilometres east of the company’s flagship Ming Mine and just 2.6 kilometres from its Nugget Pond processing facility, which is currently on care and maintenance. Shares were quoted at AU1.360, up AU0.070 or 5.426%, based on the supplied market data.

Drilling Delivers Promising Mineralisation Results

The standout result came from drill hole FFR26-071, which intersected 22.5 metres grading 2.5% CuEq from a depth of 109 metres. This included a higher-grade interval of 9 metres at 3.9% CuEq, comprising approximately 3.0% copper and 1.0 gram per tonne of gold. Earlier drilling at Mount Joy also returned encouraging results. Hole FFR26-064 intersected 6.5 metres at 2.0% CuEq from a depth of 15.6 metres, including 4.5 metres at 2.6% CuEq.

Follow-up hole FFR26-076 intersected approximately 40 metres of semi-massive sulphide mineralisation between 240 and 280 metres downhole. Further copper and gold assays are awaited, and the company cautioned that visual estimates of sulphides cannot substitute for laboratory analysis. Downhole electromagnetic surveys have also identified additional conductive targets, suggesting further drilling opportunities around the newly discovered mineralisation.

Regional Exploration and Project Development Continue

FireFly intends to continue regional exploration using three surface drilling rigs through the remainder of 2026. The company has budgeted C$16.7 million for regional exploration programmes in the 2027 financial year, while a maiden Mineral Resource Estimate for the Main Mine prospect is anticipated in the first quarter of 2027.

Meanwhile, an updated Mineral Resource Estimate and Feasibility Study for the Green Bay Ming Mine project remain on track for release in the same quarter. A Final Investment Decision is expected to be considered in mid-2027, subject to the company's ongoing technical and development work. FireFly reported approximately AU$368 million in cash and liquid investments on an unaudited basis as of 31 July 2026, supporting its exploration and project development plans.
