Source: Kapitales Research
Highlights
Annual production growth kept Sandfire aligned with its unchanged full-year operating targets.
Quarterly earnings supported a fully franked dividend while preserving a strong cash position.
Exploration near MATSA extended mineralisation, with further drilling needed to establish the discovery’s scale.
Sandfire Resources Limited (ASX: SFR) recorded a current market price of AU$19.290, up 0.6%, as investors assessed its quarterly performance and exploration announcements released on 27 October 2026. Healthy cash generation and encouraging drilling results have sharpened attention on the company’s next growth opportunities.
Quarterly Output Tracks Full-Year Targets
Sandfire produced 38.9kt of copper equivalent during the September quarter, increasing 9% compared to the previous corresponding period. However, production declined 19% compared to June, while meeting 25% of the annual guidance midpoint.
Copper output climbed 10% annually to 26,987 tonnes. Zinc production decreased 11% to 19,679 tonnes, and lead dropped 35% to 1,303 tonnes. Silver production advanced 32% to 1.5 million ounces.
MATSA supplied 22.7kt of copper-equivalent output, with Motheo adding 16.1kt. Annualised processing rates reached 4.7 million tonnes and 5.6 million tonnes, respectively.
Earnings Preserve Financial Flexibility
The company reported unaudited revenue of US$480 million and underlying EBITDA of US$272 million, delivering a 57% margin.
Closing net cash stood at US$342 million, compared to US$353 million in June, following a US$117 million fully franked dividend payment. Group capital expenditure totalled US$63 million.
MATSA recorded operating costs of US$95 per tonne and implied C1 costs of US$1.18 per pound. Corresponding Motheo costs were US$48 per tonne and US$0.65 per pound.
La Juliana Adds Exploration Interest
Drilling at La Juliana in Spain established approximately 160 metres of mineralised strike. Electromagnetic findings indicate possible continuity across at least 350 metres, while the broader prospective geological corridor extends up to two kilometres.
Intersections included 22.5 metres containing 15.4% zinc and 0.9% copper, plus 30 metres containing 10.1% zinc and 0.4% copper. A further hole intersected 22.2 metres containing 12.0% zinc and 1.0% copper; gold assays remain outstanding.
Outlook
Annual copper-equivalent guidance remains 150–166kt, with cost and capital forecasts unchanged. La Juliana drilling and Kalkaroo’s pre-feasibility study, targeted for the second half of FY2028, remain milestones. Persistent fuel-price pressure could influence operating costs, keeping energy management central to execution.
