Symal Reports Record FY26 Earnings as Acquisitions Support Further Growth

Highlights

  • Revenue exceeds AU$1 billion, but slower profit growth puts margins in focus.
  • Acquisitions broaden market exposure, while the project backlog carries an important qualification.
  • Higher FY27 earnings guidance shifts attention towards integration and project execution.

Annual Results Reveal Stronger Earnings

Symal Group Limited (ASX: SYL) announced its FY26 results on 24 August 2026, reporting record revenue, increased profitability and a broader operating footprint. The Australian contracting and technical services provider expanded across infrastructure, energy, utilities, digital infrastructure and defence, combining growth from existing operations with acquisitions.

Revenue Milestone Puts Margins in Focus

Statutory revenue increased 28.0% to AU$1.138 billion, while statutory net profit after tax rose 19.1% to AU$42.7 million.

Normalised revenue, which adjusts for specified items, reached AU$1.135 billion, compared to AU$901.7 million in FY25. Normalised earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation increased 17.2% to AU$124.3 million, exceeding the midpoint of management’s guidance.

Normalised net profit advanced 7.4% to AU$49.0 million. However, the normalised EBITDA margin declined to 11.0%, compared to 11.8%, showing that earnings grew more slowly than sales.

Acquisitions Extend Capabilities and Market Reach

Symal expanded through four completed acquisitions, adding Locale Civil, McFadyen Group, Timms Group and L&D Contracting to its operations, alongside an 80% ownership interest in Davison Earthmovers.

The proposed Shamrock Civil acquisition remained conditional when the results were released. Reported work-in-hand of approximately AU$1.9 billion included Shamrock’s secured projects, making completion relevant to assessing the combined backlog.

Digital infrastructure provided another growth opportunity. During FY26, Symal added seven project packages valued above AU$60 million, expanding its exposure to data centre construction.

Cash Generation Supports Dividend Distribution

Operating cash flow reached AU$79.9 million. At year-end, available liquidity totalled AU$258.5 million, while net debt excluding lease liabilities stood at AU$51.4 million. Shareholders will receive a fully franked final payout of 4.9 cents per share, taking Symal’s total dividend for FY26 to 8.2 cents per share. The announced payment date was 2 October 2026.

Outlook: Execution Will Shape the Next Phase

Symal forecast FY27 normalised EBITDA of AU$153 million–AU$163 million, incorporating an assumed proportionate contribution from Shamrock Civil. Its wider capabilities and diversified backlog support further expansion. Delivering that forecast will depend on effective acquisition integration, disciplined project management and converting activity into sustainable earnings and cash flow.
